Vitamin D and stress urinary incontinence in pregnancy: A cross‐sectional study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Jul 09, 2020
Stafne SN, Mørkved S, Gustafsson MK, et al. - Researchers examined if and how levels of vitamin D are associated with urinary incontinence (UI) in pregnancy. They assessed a total of 851 healthy, pregnant women > 18 years in gestational weeks 18–22 with a singleton live fetus for data on UI using a questionnaire at inclusion and on serum levels of 25‐hydroxy vitamin D (25(OH)D) via serum analysis. Vitamin D deficiency (25(OH)D < 50 nmol/l) was noted in a total of 230 (27%) participants and UI was reported in 42% participants. Observations revealed correlation of low levels of vitamin D with raised risk of urinary incontinence in pregnancy.
