Naslund U, et al. - A total of 3,532 subjects recruited between April 29, 2013 and June 7, 2016 were assessed to examine the role of ultrasound-based pictorial information regarding subclinical carotid atherosclerosis (targeting both primary care physicians and patients) for prevention of cardiovascular disease in a randomized controlled trial. Individuals aged 40, 50, or 60 years with one or more conventional risk factors were eligible. Researchers observed a decline in Framingham risk score (FRS) from baseline to 1-year follow-up in the intervention group and an increase in the control group. They determined a contributory role of pictorial presentation of silent atherosclerosis for the prevention of cardiovascular disease. They also suggested medication and lifestyle modifications to reduce the prevalence of cardiovascular disease.
