Visual and optical quality outcomes of SMILE and FS-LASIK for myopia in the very early phase after surgery
BMC Ophthalmology Apr 12, 2019
Liu T, et al. - Investigators evaluated data to quantify the impact on the recovery of small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) vs femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) in the very early postsurgical phase (within 24 h). They observed no significant differences between SMILE and FS-LASIK in the modulation transfer function (MTF) cutoff and SR (Strehl ratio). Although, significantly higher Objective Scattering Index (OSI) values at 2 h and 4 h after surgery in the SMILE group vs FS-LASIK group were recorded. The visual acuity scores were significantly poorer in the SMILE group when compared to those in the FS-LASIK group. A lesser number of patients complaining eye dryness, blurred vision, foreign body sensation and eye soreness in the SMILE group were reported.
