Visual acuity after cataract surgery in patients with optic neuropathies
Acta Ophthalmologica Dec 08, 2018
Aggarwal S, et al. - Researchers performed a retrospective case-control study of patients with and without optic neuropathies who underwent cataract surgery from 2010 to 2017 to assess their visual acuity outcomes following cataract surgery. Contrary to the expectation from such a severe ocular comorbidity, this study suggests comparable mean best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) improvement after cataract surgery between the groups. This suggests that patients with both optic neuropathies and advanced cataracts can undergo cataract surgery with a reasonable preoperative expectation that visual acuity improvement can be significant.
