Journal of Research in Medical Sciences Dec 13, 2018
Khodadoostan M, et al. - In this randomized clinical trial conducted on 130 subjects in 2013, the impact of lidocaine spray vs lidocaine viscous solution for pharyngeal local anesthesia during upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGE) had been compared. Patients’ tolerance, satisfaction, pain/discomfort, and anxiety (based on 11-point numerical score scale) and ease of endoscopy were compared on the two groups viz, viscous Group V (lidocaine solution) and lidocaine spray (Group S). They observed no significant difference between the two groups except for pain, discomfort, and anxiety that was greater in those who administered spray that might be due to the method of usage.
