Virulence patterns of Staphylococcus aureus strains from nasopharyngeal colonization
Journal of Hospital Infection Dec 22, 2017
Deinhardt-Emmer S, et al. - Researchers performed this study to determine the prevalence of nasopharyngeal colonization with Staphylococcus aureus among different age groups. In addition, they analyzed the S. aureus strain-specific virulence patterns. In all age groups, colonizing strains demonstrated a virulence profile that can potentially lead to the establishment of an invasive infection. Consequently, for selected patients, decolonization measures could be considered depending on the risk of infection.
