Schizophrenia Research Mar 09, 2018

du Sert OP, et al. - In view of large therapeutic effects of psychological therapy using computerized technology on auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) severity by enabling patients to engage in a dialogue with a computerized representation of their voices, researchers here extended the results using immersive virtual reality (VR). Results suggested the potential efficacy of VR-assisted therapy (VRT) in reducing AVH related distress. Prominent therapeutic effects of VRT were observed on the distress associated with the voices in particular. For refractory AVH in schizophrenia, VRT proved to be a highly novel and promising intervention.
