Violent behavior by emergency department patients with an involuntary hold status

Dawson NL, et al. – In this study, factors were identified that could be associated with violent behavior in emergency departments (EDs) patients during involuntary holds. In a suburban acute care hospital ED, violent behavior by patients assessed during an involuntary hold was correlated with tricyclic antidepressant use, substance misuse, and higher ED readmission rates.
