Vimentin overexpression as a novel poor prognostic biomarker in eyelid sebaceous gland carcinoma
British Journal of Ophthalmology Apr 05, 2019
Bhardwaj M, et al. - A sum of 66 individuals with sebaceous gland carcinoma (SGC) were explored to estimate the role of Vimentin in SGC along with its association with epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers E-cadherin, ZEB2, and Slug. Vimentin overexpression was revealed with immunohistochemistry (IHC) in 56% cases. A significant relationship was noted between the overexpression and lymph node metastasis as well as pagetoid spread. Poor disease-free survival was recorded among subjects with high Vimentin expression. They noticed high Vimentin expression and advanced tumor stage, independent adverse prognostic factors in the univariate Cox regression model. They overall implied a significant inverse correlation between Vimentin expression and E-cadherin as well as a direct association with ZEB2 expression.
