Venous thromboembolism and risk of cancer in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis Sep 21, 2017
Pedersen AB, et al. - This study sought to determine the cancer risk subsequent to venous thromboembolism (VTE) among rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients compared with cancer risk in RA cohort without VTE and in a general population without RA and without VTE. Findings revealed an increased risk of cancer in RA patients with VTE during the first year following VTE and also during the longer follow-up period. Thus, VTE seemed not only be a result of inflammation and immunological dysfunctions associated with RA, but could also be a marker for occult cancer.
