Vasopressin in cardiac surgery: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia May 18, 2018
Dunser MW, et al. - Researchers analyzed the data from randomized controlled trials on the use of vasopressin as a vasopressor agent in cardiac surgery. The rates of perioperative complications and postoperative mortality were assessed for 625 adult patients who received arginine vasopressin infusion or control/standard therapy while undergoing elective or emergency cardiac surgery. Using fixed and/or random effects models, pooled odds ratios were compared. As per the findings, arginine vasopressin may attenuate the rate of perioperative complications in patients undergoing elective or emergency cardiac surgery, however, postoperative mortality did not differ.
