Vasopressin and methylprednisolone vs placebo on return of spontaneous circulation in in-hospital cardiac arrest
JAMA Oct 31, 2021
Andersen LW, Isbye D, Kjærgaard J, et al. - A multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted to determine if administration of the combination of vasopressin and methylprednisolone during in-hospital cardiac arrest could result in an improvement in return of spontaneous circulation.
A total of 501 patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest were randomized to receive a combination of vasopressin and methylprednisolone (n = 245) or placebo (n = 267).
Return of spontaneous circulation was recorded in 42% of the patients in the vasopressin and methylprednisolone group and 33% in the placebo group, a difference that was statistically significant.
Administration of vasopressin and methylprednisolone results in a significant increase in the likelihood of return of spontaneous circulation among patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest.
