Vasa previa: A multicenter retrospective cohort study
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jul 08, 2019
Erfani H, et al. - Patients with antenatal diagnosis of vasa previa were described regarding their characteristics and outcomes. In addition, the predictive factors of resolution were evaluated in a contemporary large, multicenter data set. This retrospective multicenter cohort study yielded data of 136 cases of vasa previa from January 2011 to July 2018. A spontaneous resolution was observed in 19 (14%) cases at a median estimated gestational age of 27 weeks [19–34]. Cesarean delivery was performed on all subjects with unresolved vasa previa at a median estimated gestational age of 34 weeks [27–39] with the median estimated blood loss of 800 mL [250–2000]. The resolved and unresolved group showed no differences regarding rates for vaginal bleeding, preterm labor, premature rupture of membrane, and the need for blood product transfusion. Data thereby suggest excellent outcomes in antenatally diagnosed cases of vasa previa. In addition, researchers noted that the condition diagnosed before 24 weeks of gestation had a higher chance of resolution.
