Varus-valgus constrained implants in revision total knee arthroplasty: Mean clinical follow-up of six years
Journal of Arthroplasty Dec 18, 2020
Hernandez NM, Hinton ZW, Wu CJ, et al. - In this study, the durability of varus-valgus constrained (VVC) revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with selective use of cones was investigated. Between 2005 and 2018, researchers conducted a retrospective review including a total of 194 revision TKAs with VVC at a single institution. One-hundred sixty-eight TKAs with a mean follow-up of six years were included in the final cohort. The data exhibited that at six years, VVC revision TKA with selective use of cones provided a reasonable outcome as 93% were free of revision for aseptic loosening. Nevertheless, given the rate of individuals with progressive radiographic variations and survivorship free of reoperation of 74% at six years, long-term follow-up is needed to evaluate the durability of these constructs.
