Variation of carbohydrate intake in diabetic children on carbohydrate counting
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Mar 16, 2019
Elise R, et al. - In this prospective study conducted between 2014 and 2016, researchers, for the first time, determined carbohydrate intake (CI) variation in children on carbohydrate counting (CC)—a technique for managing diabetes based on counting carbohydrates. The amount of carbohydrates consumed by 77 diabetic individuals at each meal was recorded over a 28-day period (ie, 8,068 data). According to findings, the percentage of significant CI variation rates at the daily level was 30%, 34% for breakfast, 44% for lunch and dinner, and 53% for snack. The percentage of significant variation rates varied based on treatment, age, and occurrence of events. Children varied their CI significantly from one meal to another—more than 1 in 3 times. CC offered flexibility and a better quality of life for children who used this method.
