Variation in menopausal vasomotor symptoms outcomes in clinical trials: A systematic review
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Dec 06, 2019
Iliodromiti S, et al. - Given a large variation in reporting and measuring of menopausal vasomotor symptoms (hot flushes and night sweats) among intervention studies, researchers reviewed the outcome reporting and measures used to appraise menopausal vasomotor symptoms from randomized controlled trials of treatments. Searching MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from inception to May 2018, they identified 214 studies for inclusion in this work. They identified 49 different primary reported outcomes for vasomotor symptoms and 16 different tools to measure these outcomes. Frequency (97/214), severity (116/214), and intensity (28/114) of vasomotor symptoms or a composite of these outcomes (68/214) were the most commonly reported outcomes. Outcomes emphasize the urgent necessity for a core outcome set.
