Variables associated with the use of prophylactic amitriptyline treatment in patients with tension-type headache
Clinical Journal of Pain Mar 14, 2019
Palacios-Ceña M, et al. - Researchers studied 173 individuals with tension-type headache (TTH) to determine how clinical, psychological, and psychophysical outcomes differ with respect to the use of prophylactic medication (amitriptyline) in TTH. Forty-nine (28%) patients reported prophylactic medication use for headaches (amitriptyline: 100%). Patients with higher headache frequency, higher headache burden, worse sleep quality, and higher depression tended to use prophylactic medication. They observed widespread pain hyperalgesia in correlation with lower effectiveness of prophylactic amitriptyline.
