Variability of tidal volume in patient-triggered mechanical ventilation in ARDS
Respiratory Care Oct 30, 2017
Perinel-Ragey S, et al. - In this study, a bench model was used to systematically explore the impact of patient-triggered modes on the size and variability of tidal volume (VT) at different breathing frequencies (f), patient effort, and ARDS severity. Findings demonstrated a significantly reduced risk of VT > 6 mL/kg in airway pressure release ventilation (APRV) and pressure support with guaranteed volume mode. Data showed that APRV had the highest variability. Furthermore, it was observed that pressure support with guaranteed volume could be tested in patients with ARDS.
