Hurt RT, et al. - The efficacy of 12 weeks of varenicline for increasing smoking abstinence rates was evaluated in smokers with alcohol abuse or dependence. For increasing smoking abstinence rates, varenicline was found to be safe and efficacious in smokers with alcohol abuse or dependence. In this population of smokers, varenicline could decrease alcohol consumption.
