Value of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for gastric cancer surveillance in patients with Lynch syndrome
International Journal of Cancer Oct 16, 2020
Ladigan‐Badura S, Vangala DB, Engel C, et al. - In patients with Lynch syndrome (LS) researchers, assessed the efficacy of upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy for early detection of gastric cancer (GC). They used data from the German Consortium for Familial Intestinal Cancer registry. One thousand one hundred twenty-eight out of 2,009 registered people with confirmed LS underwent 5,176 upper GI endoscopies for this prospective, multicenter cohort study. The research supports the recommendation for routine upper GI endoscopy surveillance for LS patients starting no later than 30 years of age. In patients undergoing regular surveillance, GCs were diagnosed significantly more often in an early‐stage disease (UICC I) vs GCs detected through symptoms.
