Value of molecular classification for prognostic assessment of adrenocortical carcinoma

JAMA Oncology Jul 17, 2019

Assié G, et al. - In this retrospective biomarker analysis involving 368 patients, researchers compared the molecular classification for prognostic assessment of adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) with other known prognostic factors. After complete surgery, molecular classification was an independent prognostic factor in patients stage I to III disease and the combination of tumor stage, tumor grade, and the molecular class gave the best prognostic model of disease-free survival. The prognostic value of molecular classification has been verified in a large independent cohort using targeted molecular measurements. The results indicate that targeted classifiers can be used as independent recurrence markers in localized ACC. Molecular class determination can enhance individual prognostic evaluation and thus avoid unnecessary adjuvant therapy.
