Value of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography of the carotid artery for evaluating disease activity in Takayasu arteritis
Arthritis Research & Therapy Jan 24, 2019
Ma LY, et al. - Researchers assessed 84 subjects in a Chinese Takayasu arteritis (TA) clinical center from January 2016 to September 2017 to estimate the utility of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) to monitor the disease activity of Takayasu arteritis (TA). They significantly noticed the involvement of the entire artery and Macaroni sign. Grade 2 neovascularization was seen in 61.70% of active cases and in 24.32% of inactive cases. Moreover, it was noted that cases with decreased ESR and C-reactive protein (CRP) still had a succession of vascular wall inflammation at 3 months of follow-up. They suggested CEUS more sensitive as compared to acute phase reactants to estimate the vascular inflammation.
