Validation of the REVEAL prognostic equation and risk score calculator in incident systemic sclerosis–associated pulmonary arterial hypertension
Arthritis & Rheumatology Sep 03, 2019
Mullin CJ, Khair RM, Damico RL, et al. - In order to assess the predictive accuracy of the REVEAL models for prognosticating the probability of 1-year survival in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc)–associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) (SSc-PAH), researchers used prospectively gathered data from the Johns Hopkins Pulmonary Hypertension Program and Pulmonary Hypertension Assessment and Recognition of Outcome in Scleroderma Registries. In patients newly diagnosed with SSc-PAH, in prognosticating 1-year survival, the REVEAL prognostic equation and risk score give very good discrimination although poor calibration. REVEAL prediction scores should be evaluated with care in newly diagnosed SSc-PAH patients, especially those with a greater prognosticated risk of poor 1-year survival leading from a low 6-minute walk test or a high brain natriuretic peptide serum level.
