Validation of an Oral Disease Severity Score (ODSS) tool for use in oral mucous membrane pemphigoid
British Journal of Dermatology Oct 05, 2019
Ormond M, McParland H, Thakrar P, et al. - In this investigation, researchers validated the Oral Disease Severity Score (ODSS) for the evaluation of oral involvement in mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP), as well as compared its inter- and intra-observer reliability with the oral parts of the Mucous Membrane Pemphigoid Disease Area Index (MMPDAI), Autoimmune Bullous Skin Disorder Intensity Score (ABSIS) and Physician’s Global Assessment (PGA). Ten oral medicine clinicians from four UK centers using ODSS, the oral sections of MMPDAI and ABSIS and PGA scored 15 patients with mild to moderately severe oral MMP for disease severity. Investigators found that inter-observer reliability for ODSS total score intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.97; MMPDAI activity 0.59 and damage 0.15; ABSIS total 0.84; and PGA 0.72. This investigation validated the ODSS for oral MMP evaluation. It has demonstrated superior reliability of inter-observer than MMPDAI, ABSIS and PGA, and reliability of intra-observer than MMPDAI. Performing quickly and easily.
