Vagus nerve stimulation in refractory and super-refractory status epilepticus – A systematic review
Brain Stimulation May 19, 2019
Dibué-Adjei M, et al. - Researchers assessed the effectiveness of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) in refractory status epilepticus (RSE)/super-refractory SE (SRSE) by involving all reported patients in a systematic review. The study included patients who had acute implantations of VNS in RSE/SRSE, which was linked with a 76% success rate in generalized RSE and a 26% success rate in focal RSE. In 74% of patients, VNS was able to interrupt RSE and SRSE. More prospective researchers should be done in order to investigate acute VNS in RSE and SRSE.
