Utilization of systemic inflammatory response syndrome criteria in predicting mortality among geriatric patients with influenza in the emergency department
BMC Infectious Diseases Jul 26, 2019
Tai HCH, et al. - Researchers investigated the utility of the Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) criteria in mortality prediction among geriatric patients with influenza in the emergency department (ED). In this retrospective case–control study, 409 geriatric patients (age ≥ 65 years) with influenza who presented to the ED of a medical center were included. With an odds ratio of 3.37, SIRS criteria score ≥ 3 showed better mortality prediction in these patients and was capable of satisfactory discrimination of 30-day mortality, after adjustment.
