Utilization of postoperative chemoradiotherapy among women in the United States with high-risk cervical cancer
American Journal of Clinical Oncology Apr 28, 2018
Trifiletti DM, et al. - Researchers performed an analysis of the National Cancer Database, to determine the rates of adjuvant therapy utilization among women treated initially with hysterectomy for high-risk cervical cancer in the United States. Patients without high-risk pathologic features were excluded: pN+, positive surgical margins, and parametrial invasion (Peters’ criteria). Although the use of adjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) was supported by level I evidence, its utilization was reported in less than half of women in this large US cohort with high-risk cervical cancer. Between 2002 and 2012, no significant increase in the use of adjuvant CRT for women was reported. The factors that were found to be related to the use of adjuvant CRT included patient age, race, and pathologic risk factors.
