Utility of TG/HDL-c ratio as a predictor of mortality and cardiovascular disease in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis: A systematic review
Hemodialysis International Dec 18, 2021
Gonzáles-Rubianes DZ, Figueroa-Osorio LK, Benites-Zapata VA, et al. - In this study, the triglyceride/high-density cholesterol-lipoprotein (TG/HDL-c) ratio was identified to be a protective factor for cardiovascular outcomes and mortality in the American population and a risk factor for them in the population from Asia.
In this systematic review, relevant cohort studies from Medline, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and Pubmed databases were identified; these studies reported on cardiovascular events and mortality in hemodialysis patients the role of TG/HDL-c as a risk factor.
Analysis of four cohort-type studies (3 in Asian populations and one in the United States) revealed better survival in relation to elevated TG/HDL-c ratio, and also a consistent gradual inverse link between TG/HDL-c and death in all analysis subgroups.
In the decile categorization of the exposure variable, the highest decile showed a 21% reduction in the risk of cardiovascular mortality and a 15% decrease in all-cause mortality vs the reference group.
