Schroeder NO, et al. – Given the increasing prevalence of antibiotic–resistant organisms and heightened focus on health care costs, appropriate and evidence–based use of antibiotics was recommended. Researchers here tested their hypothesis that postoperative antibiotic administration would not decrease the rate of surgical–site infection. Findings supported this hypothesis. They identified that postoperative antibiotics administration after closed reduction and percutaneous pinning of pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures did not decrease the rate of surgical–site infection.
