Utility of left atrial expansion index and stroke volume in management of chronic systolic heart failure
Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography Feb 13, 2018
Hsiao SH, et al. - Researchers, using echocardiographic parameters, investigated stroke volume and left ventricular (LV) filling pressure to guide up-titration of medications, increasing prognostic benefits in management of chronic systolic heart failure (HF). In this work, echocardiographic guidance showed a lower rate of adverse events. The prescribing frequency and dose of diuretics could be reduced with this strategy. In long-term prognosis, a statistically significant difference was evident between propensity score–matched pairs of patients with chronic severe HF with and without echocardiographic guidance.
