Utility of gastric and duodenal biopsies during follow-up endoscopy in children with eosinophilic esophagitis
Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Sep 28, 2017
Kaur S, et al. - This study dealt with the assessment of the role of gastric and duodenal biopsies in children with an established diagnosis of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), undergoing repeat endoscopy. The purpose was to discern the histological response to therapy. The findings illustrated pathology in a minority of patients, increase costs, and could add to the potential risk of adverse events via gastric and duodenal biopsies obtained in EoE patients during follow-up endoscopy. Additional analyses of endoscopic practice during follow-up of EoE were necessitated to yield evidence, supporting the best practices.
