Utility of digital rectal examination (DRE) as an adjunct to prostate specific antigen (PSA) in the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer
The Journal of Urology Oct 27, 2017
Halpern JA, et al. - This study entailed the analysis of the consequence of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) on the connection between digital rectal examination (DRE) and clinically significant prostate cancer (CSPC) in the US cohort. It was reported that DRE exhibited prognostic utility when PSA >3, limited utility when PSA <2, and marginal utility for PSA 2-3. Restriction of DRE was supported for men with higher PSA as a reflex test to improve specificity. It was not recommended for use as a primary screening modality to improve sensitivity.
