Utility of computed tomography angiography in traumatic lower limb injury: Review of clinical impact in level 1 trauma centre
Injury Feb 25, 2021
Joseph TI, Ratnakanthan PJ, Paul E, et al. - In the setting of trauma (1-6), CT angiography (CTA) aids in efficiently and accurately detecting lower limb vascular injury. Researchers here sought to clarify the in-practice association between appropriate indications for these examinations and subsequent clinical impacts. Performing retrospective search, they reviewed all CT leg angiography acquired from January 2016 through April 2019, identifying a total of 347 lower limb injuries in 273 men and 74 women. Based on findings, it is unlikely that CT angiography demonstrates vascular injury necessitating intervention when there are no clinical signs of vessel injury (absence of any hard or soft signs) in the setting of lower limb trauma.
