Utility and prognostic ability of a diagnostic injection before revision total knee arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Feb 01, 2021
Sonn KA, Deckard ER, Aasar AR, et al. - The present study was performed to develop the role of diagnostic injections in predicting successful revision total knee arthroplasties (TKA). Researchers conducted a retrospective review to include144 consecutive aseptic revision TKAs receiving diagnostic anesthetic injections. This study’s findings demonstrate that after diagnostic injection, individuals reporting > 50% pain relief have improvements in activity level and maintain greater satisfaction at minimum 1-year than those reporting ≤ 50% pain relief. After revision TKA, expectations for improvement should be tempered if diagnostic anesthetic injection yields minimal subjective pain relief.
