Using different anthropometric indices to assess prediction ability of type 2 diabetes in elderly population: A 5 year prospective study
BMC Geriatrics Sep 21, 2018
Yang J, et al. - Researchers investigated how different anthropometric indices are associated with incident diabetes risk and whether novel anthropometric indices improve diabetes prediction beyond traditional indices in a cohort of 9,962 elderly Chinese individuals aged ≥ 60 years. Data from showed that body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, waist-to-height ratio, visceral adiposity index, and body roundness index were significantly associated with incident risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D). BMI was identified to be the strongest and best predictor of incident diabetes in the elderly population. No improvement in the prediction of T2D was achieved with novel anthropometric indices when compared with traditional anthropometric indices in this patient population.
