Using blood cytokine measures to define high inflammatory biotype of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder

Boerrigter D, et al. - This study aimed at defining “elevated inflammatory biotype” of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder using blood cytokine measures. Compared to controls, schizophrenia patients were more susceptible to have elevated levels of inflammation. Additionally, both mRNA and protein measures should be taken into account when trying to define inflammatory status based on peripheral measures as each have distinct advantages and disadvantages and can yield different results.
