Usefulness of transabdominal ultrasonography for assessing ulcerative colitis: A prospective, multicenter study
Journal of Gastroenterology Dec 10, 2018
Kinoshita K, et al. - In this prospective multicenter study, researchers established the usefulness of the transabdominal ultrasonography (US) in assessing the extent and activity of ulcerative colitis (UC) diseases in comparison with colonoscopy (CS). A total of 173 patients were prospectively enrolled with UC, 156 of whom were eligible for the study. The data presented in this work showed moderate concordance between US and CS for evaluating the disease activity of UC. Concordance for each colonic segment was rated moderate but only slightly for the rectum. Therefore, the US can be used more generally in daily clinical practice to evaluate UC.
