Usefulness of 18F-labeled fluorodeoxyglucose–positron emission tomography for the diagnosis of lymphoma in primary Sjögren's syndrome
Arthritis & Rheumatology May 22, 2019
Keraen J, et al. - In order to clarify the utility of positron emission tomography–computed tomography (PET-CT) with 18F-labeled fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) for the diagnosis of lymphoma in cases with primary Sjögren's syndrome (SS), researchers performed this retrospective study wherein they compared 18F-FDG–PET-CT in patients with primary SS with lymphoma and those without lymphoma. PET-CT could enable the visualization of some systemic manifestations of primary SS (lymphadenopathy, pulmonary involvement, and salivary gland involvement). With regard to the involvement of the lymph nodes and parotid glands, which were common findings, a similar frequency was reported in SS patients with vs those without lymphoma. Findings revealed the association of a maximum standardized uptake value in the parotid glands of ≥4.7 and/or the presence of focal lung lesions, with the diagnosis of lymphoma.
