Usefulness of noncontrast MRI in differentiation between gallbladder carcinoma and benign conditions manifesting as focal mild wall thickening
Clinical Imaging Dec 08, 2018
Cha SY, et al. - In this study, the researchers examined the authenticity of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) over noncontrast MRI with multidetector row CT (MDCT) to distinguish gallbladder carcinoma from benign disease. Two radiologists evaluated the MDCT and MRI to define the differential peculiarities between malignancy and benignity over 101 patients (36 with gallbladder carcinoma and 65 with benign disease). Remarkable differences in sensitivity and specificity between the MDCT and noncontrast MRI were observed by them. Hence, it was concluded that noncontrast MRI could be considered a valuable choice to gadoxetic acid–enhanced MRI in the diagnosis of gallbladder carcinoma which was presented as mild gallbladder wall thickening on MDCT.
