Usefulness of higher levels of cardiac troponin T in patients with stable angina pectoris to predict risk of acute myocardial infarction
American Journal of Cardiology Jul 12, 2018
Vavik V, et al. - In this study including 3,882 patients assessed for suspected stable angina pectoris, researchers examined the link between high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) and future acute myocardial infarction (AMI) using Cox regression. They also investigated to which extent hs-cTnT reduced the links between traditional coronary heart disease (CHD) risk factors and AMI. They performed a median eight years of follow-up, during which AMI was reported in 460 (11.8%) patients. A positive association of hs-cTnT with incident AMI was observed among patients with suspected stable angina. Also, the risk associations between traditional CHD risk factors and incident AMI were slightly attenuated by hs-cTnT, but a significant relation of each risk factor to AMI remained.
