Usefulness of calcaneal quantitative ultrasound stiffness for the evaluation of bone health in HIV-1-infected subjects: Comparison with dual X-ray absorptiometry
HIV/AIDS - Research and Palliative Care Aug 12, 2017
Fantauzzi A, et al. – A cross–sectional study was undertaken to investigate bone mineral status in a group of HIV–1–infected subjects. As an alternative and/or integrative examination to Dual–energy X–ray absorptiometry (DXA), calcaneal quantitative ultrasound (QUS) seemed to have utility in screening HIV–1–infected patients for assessing bone health impairment. Findings suggested the usefulness of calcaneal QUS for monitoring bone status, this is a noninvasive and inexpensive technique, especially in those subjects with the classical traditional risk factors for bone damage that were observed earlier in HIV–1 population.
