Usefulness of antithrombotic therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation and acute myocardial infarction
The American Journal of Cardiology Oct 02, 2018
Guimaraes PO, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, researchers examined patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and atrial fibrillation (AF) who were admitted for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) to assess patterns of pre-admission and discharge antithrombotic therapies. They collected and analyzed data using the Acute Coronary Treatment and Intervention Outcomes Network Registry-Get With the Guidelines, which captures consecutive AMI patients treated at participating US hospitals. They found that patients with prior CAD and AF for both recurrent ischemic events and stroke prevention were undertreated. In addition, P2Y12 inhibition was preferred over oral anticoagulation following AMI hospitalization.
