Use of the Skin Cancer Quality of Life Impact Tool (SCQOLIT) – A feasibility study in non-melanoma skin cancer
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Sep 21, 2019
Wali GN, et al. - In patients with a new diagnosis of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), researchers conducted a mixed-methods prospective feasibility study designed to establish the acceptability of using the Skin Cancer Quality of Life Impact Tool (SCQOLIT) tool in dermatology skin cancer clinics and to provide a descriptive analysis of SCQOLIT scores in the NMSC population. SCQOLIT, EQ-5D and a transition item were completed by patients with histologically confirmed NMSC. In total, 318 patients agreed to take part. At baseline, mean SCQOLIT score was 5.33, with 2.6% of patients scoring ≥ 20. In facilitating discussions, most clinicians found SCQOLIT ‘very useful’ or ‘useful to some extent.’ According to this feasibility study, in dermatology skin cancer clinics, SCQOLIT is acceptable to patients and staff. SCQOLIT's psychometric properties confirm its usefulness in NMSC populations.
