Use of statin medications following diagnosis in relation to survival among women with ovarian cancer
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention May 11, 2019
Harding BN, et al. - Using SEER-Medicare data, researchers focused on the potential link between statin use after cancer diagnosis and cancer-specific mortality among women with ovarian cancer. The participants were 66 years of age or more. They defined statin use as two or more fills for a statin during the year following diagnosis. Statins were used by 489 (22%) of overall 2,195 women with ovarian cancer, within one year following their diagnosis. Comparing statin users to non-users, the estimated adjusted hazard ratio for ovarian cancer mortality was 0.74. As per findings from this study as well as previous investigations, a lower risk of cancer mortality was evident in relation to statin use after a diagnosis with ovarian cancer.
