Use of spironolactone to treat acne in adolescent females
Pediatric Dermatology Mar 03, 2021
Roberts EE, Nowsheen S, Davis DMR, et al. - Since studies evaluating the utility of spironolactone for treating acne in adolescent females are insufficient, researchers tested the safety and effectiveness of spironolactone for acne treatment in female adolescents. A retrospective review was conducted to determine the effectiveness of spironolactone treatment in adolescent females seen at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, from 2007 to 2017. Eighty patients meet the study's inclusion criteria, with a median age of 19 years (range, 14–20 years). According to findings, spironolactone showed effectiveness in treating acne in adolescent females and is a safe long‐term option to systemic antibiotics in such patients.
