Use of neck circumference as a predictor of cardiovascular risk in chronic kidney patients undergoing haemodialysis who are candidates for transplantation
Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics Jun 16, 2021
Medeiros LT, Sales AEC, da Silva e Sousa FI, et al. - Researchers undertook this cross-sectional analysis to assess if the cardiovascular risk determined by neck circumference (NC) was related to the main cardiometabolic risk factors in patients receiving haemodialysis treatment who were on a waiting list for transplantation. A total of 96 patients in a single transplantation centre were analyzed. Higher BMI averages, blood glucose, triglycerides (TGL), triglyceride and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (TGL/HDL-C) ratio and triglyceride and glycaemia index were noted in the tertile 3 of the NC, whereas the HDL-C reduced as the tertile increased. Among kidney patients on haemodialysis who were on a transplant waiting list, an association of NC with cardiometabolic risk factors was evident in this study.
