Use of dual mobility acetabular component and anterior approach in patients with displaced femoral neck fracture.
Journal of Arthroplasty Mar 05, 2021
Jinnai Y, Homma Y, Baba T, et al. - Studies have already documented the anti-dislocation effect of total hip arthroplasty (THA) via the direct anterior approach (DAA) with dual mobility cup (DMC) for displaced femoral neck fracture (FNF), however, uncertainty remains concerning the clinical result of DMC-DAA-THA for displaced FNF in terms of mortality, complications and walking ability. Researchers here examined 106 cases with DMC-DAA-THA for displaced FNF for dislocation, peri-operative complications, 3, 6, 12 months mortality rate, and pre/early post-operative walking ability. No dislocation was observed within 1-year post-operative period. Mortality rate of 2.8%, 4.7%, and 5.7% was recorded at 3, 6, and 12-months, respectively. Overall findings revealed quick recovery of walking ability with no dislocation and low 1-year mortality rate in correlation with undergoing DMC-DAA-THA for displaced FNF. Acording to researchers, the contributers of null dislocation were: the combination of early postoperative recovery due to the minimal invasiveness of the DAA and reduced dislocation rate due to improved range of motion by DMC and sufficient soft tissue tension by DAA.
