Use of completion lymph node dissection for sentinel lymph node positive melanoma
Journal of the American College of Surgeons Jan 23, 2020
Herb JN, et al. - Researchers investigated time trends in completion lymph node dissection (CLND) among patients with sentinel node positive melanoma (SNPM). Further, they explored institutional and clinical factors linked with CLND. From the National Cancer Database (2012-2016), they assessed 7,146 patients with SNPM. The analysis revealed a decrease in CLND in SNPM over time, with the greatest change in 2016. They observed a lower likelihood of CLND in correlation to female sex and increasing age. A higher likelihood of CLND was noted in correlation with increased Breslow depth, ulceration, and high-volume centers. Further, they identified regional differences in the likelihood of CLND.
