Use and outcomes associated with perioperative amiodarone in cardiac surgery
Journal of the American Heart Association Aug 08, 2019
Atreya AR, Priya A, Pack QR, et al. - Researchers assessed the link between perioperative amiodarone use and the development of atrial arrhythmias, in-hospital death, readmission, length of stay (LOS), and cost among patients ≥ 18 years old who underwent elective coronary bypass surgery in the US hospitals. The participants had no previous history of atrial or ventricular arrhythmias. They found that perioperative amiodarone use resulted in a lower risk of atrial arrhythmias and shorter LOS among participants. However, findings revealed no link between perioperative amiodarone use and in-hospital mortality, cost, or readmission. The revelations of this investigation were found to be consistent with previous randomized trials and offer support to current guideline suggestions.
