US national trends in violent and unintentional injuries, 2000 to 2016
JAMA Dec 24, 2018
Lawless RA, et al. - Researchers performed this study to assess the temporal patterns of injury fatalities in the United States from 2000 to 2016. Data display improvement in most injuries, however, recent trends indicating erosion of the promising survival gains call for closely monitoring the trends in injury rates due to all mechanisms and intentions and among all groups.
- Among Americans, injury is identified to be one of the leading causes of death continously.
- Improvements in most injuries were reported in 1980s and 1990s, however, the recent trends indicate depletion of the promising survival gains.
- Findings highlight the significance of closely monitoring trends in injury rates due to all mechanisms and intentions and among all groups, for updating and adapting interventions and policy to further reduce fatalities.
